Icelandic Ponies

These lovely little horses are everywhere in Iceland. I ran across this group early on my first morning in country.

Just down the road from the ponies, I pulled over to capture this stunning scene. I found out later that stunning scenes like this are the norm in Iceland, and not the exception.

Kirkjufell is one of the iconic mountains of Icelandic scenery. By the time I arrived, it was snowing buckets.

Gulfoss

The “golden waterfall” was a bit icy when I arrived. It was bitterly cold, and my cheeks were numb after making the brief hike down to the overlook.

Littli Geysir

Littli Geysir

This is one of the many fumaroles near Geysir, the first-named geyser.

This is from the Ring Road that runs entirely around Iceland. Sadly, I could only traverse about 10% of it in the time that I visited. Someday, I’ll be back.

Seljalandfoss

Seljalandfoss

One of the numerous beautiful waterfalls throughout Iceland.

Skogarfoss

Skogarfoss

Another epic waterfall. I dared not get too close, since the mist from the waterfall was freezing on the snow and created a slippery ice rink.

Bras on fence, southern Iceland

I ran across this farm near Selfoss that had hundreds of brassieres (along with boots and other clothing) hanging on its fence. While the history of this is somewhat fuzzy (you should Google “Iceland bras fence”), it makes a rather unexpected image.

Hallgrímskirkja

Hallgrímskirkja

The local parish church in downtown Reykjavík. I only visited the city during the morning of my last day in Iceland, but I could easily spend a week here.
